The Dream is on the Rock By Nancy M Bell

The Dream is on the Rock

The Highwood slips past the rock

The rock is rooted in the earth

Its face to the sun

The water is in the rock

The rock remembers as it flows into mountains

Water frozen in the stone

The quartz in the granite

The vision is before his eyes

The paint is on the rock

red ochre against the silvery rose cliff

His dream breathed into life

Iron earth and fish oil melting into the stone

The dream will live forever

Long past the days of his old age

The Highwood slips past the rock

The dream is on the rock

Confession: I had to read your and Craig’s notes. This totally makes sense as a vision quest. I very much would like to visit this spot.

says:

You create some wonderful visions with this piece. I feel the solid rock and the water, the strong smell of earth and its creation.

This may be a dumb question, but, what is The Highwood?

Suggestion: Get rid of the word “the” in most of the lines. It reads smoother to me, and you don’t need them. Example below:

The Highwood slips past the rock

The rock is rooted in the earth

Its face to the sun

Water is in the rock

The rock remembers as it flows into mountains

Water frozen in the stone

Quartz in the granite

Wonderful writing, Nancy! 🙂
