Bill Withers. “Ain’t no sunshine when she’s gone, she’s always gone too long anytime she goes away.”

“A broken heart has no balm,” that’s my favorite line and some of the truest words written about a hurt heart.

“But sometimes love it goes astray.” When I read it, I put a coma after love.

You show that simple words can stir up strong emotions. Excellent work

Excellent, Tim! The pain pain comes through, sharply. You brought it through well.

One nit: “Neither party, has done any wrong.”- I recommend you drop the comma. That’s all. Write on!

Great poem Tim!

Makes me wanna break out in the blues/jazz song, “Aint No Sunshine When She’s Gone!” (Do you know the one?) I’ll be crooning that tune all day now, LOL.

An apt description of teenage angst, love it! Write on!

Thank you, Marcia!

Yup, I know that song, it’s a favorite of mine. It’s also the song to the tune of which I wrote this poem. Glad you enjoyed!!

I like the lines “Neither party, has done any wrong. But sometimes love it goes astray.” It makes it a little sadder because of the inevitability of it. If someone has made a mistake or done wrong the situation can be discussed but when “sometimes love it goes astray.” it’s just inevitable. I like those lines, they summed it up so succinctly.

Thanks, Ian. I appreciate you taking the time to review.
Sometimes, love goes in it’s own directions, regardless of the heart’s desire to keep it on another path.
