Life Unlived

My mind swims with thoughts

of her death

unanswered questions

the struggle, the pain

years left unlived

she has forgotten how strong and how bright

she could unravel the days

with her songs and her laughter

she has forgotten the poems she wrote

faith that lifted her beyond mountains

words she believed

a travesty

to live in darkened chairs

with no one to talk to but the demons

floating in her brain

Nicely done, Becky.
I see two things here- either someone who has succumbed to madness at some point in their life, or the onset of dementia/alzheimer’s.

A striking poem, and one that hits close to home for this reader.

Nicely done.
