Hey Becky! I haven’t been able to get on WC because of some problem with my sighing in. I just got it fixed! So I’ve been gone for like a month! (feels like a month, anyway) I’m just now able to sign in and check the new site out. Pretty cool! These guys did a lot of work! The only thing that sucks is having to redo my posts. Not sure If I even want to! Anyway, I like this little corner of yours where we can just talk about whatever…pretty cool.

says:

If you have any questions about the new site, please ask. I’m sorry you’ve had problems signing on, that is not good. Things are constantly evolving right now on the new site, and features being added almost every day. It is quite exciting! I know I am not going to add all the posts I had on the old WC, but have added some and will more, now and then. Maybe pick some of your favorites and repost them here.

So good to see you, Lisa! I’m glad you were able to rejoin us here. Yah, I made my own little corner…lol You can do it, too. Just tag your post Social Hour. Takes a little bit of getting used to as we don’t have the Status Update page we used to have. Gotta think of creative ways to keep our social connections!

Enjoy the site. Shout out if you need anything.

Hi Rebecca! Happy to let you know what is going on in my writing world and my living room. I think you may understand. My writing juices are flowing , I am just not able to post anything yet. The new site has not been kind to me.
For more than a week I have been unable to get the knack of the new site. I managed to post a picture of myself but it disappeared the same day. I am now logged in but there is no picture or symbol that represents me where it says log in. I cannot post any new stuff.
So now, my living room sees a grumpy me, who took time off from work for two weeks and got no fun stuff done on WC

I see you have a picture before your name in your comments. So, you did use gravatar to set your picture? http://www.gravatar.com Are you still not seeing your picture on the upper right hand side of the page? Or, were you trying to set an image in a post? For featured images, read the FAQ’s. Scroll down to Adding Media to your work. https://www.writerscarnival.ca/about-us/

says:

Thank you so much Rebecca for responding to me. I felt like a lost sheep for a while. hehehe. I followed the instructions and used Gravitar. My picture came in the right hand corner then it disappeared. I am still not seeing it. For now I am happy to know I can communicate with you. Thank you so much!

says:

I talked to the site administrator, and he said your picture should eventually show up in the upper right hand corner. Log out and then log back in, it may just be as simple as that. It may take a few hours. The important thing is that your pic shows before comments. It should be set. Let me know if it doesn’t show up soon.

The new site definitely takes some getting used to, but many things are much easier to do once you figure it out. Posting is much easier now, I think. On the HOME page click on the Post For Review Button to find your posts and those others have posted. Click on the Recent Site Activity, and you will also see the most recent posts on the left hand side, and running comments in the center that other members have posted.

says:

Don’t be grumpy….lol I am here for awhile, so feel free to direct any questions you have here, or on the Welcome to the New Site Post in the Social Hour category on the Home page. Write On, Baby! I want to read your posts!

Hello Becky and everybody! I’ve been busy doing homework and preparing for Camp nanowrimo. My outline for ‘Mercy’ is almost finished, though, I’ve already began a fresh start of the story. The first day for Camp nanowrimo is tomorrow, which is one reason why I’ve done a headstart on my college assignments this week, despite it being spring break. I want to finished the WHOLE manuscript of ‘Mercy’ this year. Not just bits and pieces. Lol. Anyone else doing Camp nanowrimo this spring/summer? 🙂

says:

Hey there! You are making such great progress! Very inspiring. I have not thought about doing Camp Nanowrimo, but I bet some others are. This would be a great topic for your own Social post. Write something up about Participating in Camp Nanowrimo this summer! And tag it Social Hour.

says:

Oh I have missed this sooo much, I have visited the old homestead and said as much there. I have been working hard, still revising my manuscript, My main character threw me a curve she wasn’t supposed to, now I think I have to re write the last quarter as I can’t get it out of my head. Blooming characters who gives them the right!
Serious question!
I am trying to find some info or links to where I can get help with writing humour. I have an idea of writing a grey… as in dark but not quite black, that is shot through with humour… I am not finding anything. sniff can you or one of the mighty ones help?

says:

Get those characters in line, Ms. Best! That is really cool, though, and exciting to have your main character leading you. Sounds like it has given you motivation, too.

As for links on writing dark humor… I don’t write much humor, so I am at a loss. But, I might try to google some things for you. Stay tuned. I think Anisa writes a lot of grey to dark humor. She may have some ideas for you. I KNOW Dave writes excellent dark humor, but I think it comes to him naturally, lol…. If you see Greg Shipman come round these parts, he would definitely have some things to say to help you. He seems to be missing, at the moment. Doug definitely likes dark.

Good Luck in your search for some tutorials.

Maybe a new topic for group discussion? I am told I should be able to just do it as I have a quirky sense of humour, but I was hoping to find as we do with all other genres some guides or nono’s. I appreciate your help. P.S. If Greg doesn’t appear it will be a sad day at this beautiful carnival place…

says:

I think that is a great idea, Ellen. You could easily write a Group Discussion about this! Do it! Then you can get the word out more effectively.

I sure hope he turns up soon. Missing that guy!

says:

I have written a group discussion tagged it as such but I am jiggered if I know where it went, or if anyone will ever see it as a group discussion… This could be very one sided. “Well Ellen you want to know about humour”
“Yes I do”
“Have you Googled or asked people for advice?”
“I have”…
No, it isn’t really working for me Becca. Sulk

Hey Becky,

I’m good. Busy as hell, but good.
My schedule is pretty hectic. I have the photography thing going on right now, and that’s picking up with the spring season. I have my weight loss thing I’m working on too. That keeps me pretty busy, believe it or not, because I walk a lot more.
Then comes work, writing, WC, and coloring. Somewhere in there is sleep and family time. LOL Lots of fun.

How about you? Anything good going on in your neck of the woods?

says:

Busy, busy, busy. You know the tune to that song, I can tell. Getting used to my new job working nights, again. It is going well, and my body and mind seem to be getting used to it. So, now I can write more!

Dave Allen

says:

Hi, Becky! I’m still stuck in a rut. Just picked up a Stephen King novel – that usually jars me into action.

How about you? Are you riding the dark side or light side today?

says:

I’m driving the “work” side of me today. Getting caught up here on WC! Not writing anything fun light or dark, well, maybe light as in positive! But, I need to set away some time for a dark ride, my friend. May it come soon! Wanna come with? Maybe we should write one together….just for fun, as a post. Others could join in and share the darkness. LOL!

Dave Allen

says:

Sounds like a plan, Becky! The darker the better. By the way, I finally got motivated to get something done. Posted a new one just now, after so many months of stagnation. Not I’m going to have a beer – I’ve earned it.

Carol Moore

says:

I am confused, very confused I know what else is new. I am having a little trouble adjusting to the new site. My new writing partner is nine months old and very demanding lol. I work on writing when I am not hanging with Kinsay, while his momma works. Hopefully I will get to writing and posting again soon. 🙂

says:

Don’t be confused, Carol. You will figure it out. It is definitely different, with great new ways to enjoy the site, and some things lost, but it is evolving! Write up a quick Social Hour post for yourself and see how many replies you get. 🙂

As for the grand baby and the writing… All things come in time and balance out. I am sure you are busier than heck chasing him around! Jot some things down about his progress and growing, I’m sure there are lots of humorous stories to tell.

Have you moved, again, yet?

Anisa Irwin

says:

Hey Rebecca,

Right now, I’m working on outlining another Absur’D book for the holidays. I’m trying to get in a more regular habit of writing, same old… Lol. What have you been up to?

Anisa

says:

Doing a lot of work for WC, and journaling every day as I participate in a daily meditation series. The journaling is freeing and helping me to bring up many topic ideas for my writing, in general. I have two long stories started in the last two years(novel possibilities), and they have one main thing in common: a female heroine. She needs to be written.
